Previously, I always thought that scarves were just a women’s thing, like dresses. A “straight man” like me could just ignore the cold wind and didn’t need a cumbersome scarf. However, I was wrong. After trying a scarf once (ah, it smells good!), I realized that my neck didn’t need to be filled with wind in winter.
However, the most crucial thing is that scarves are found to be an absolutely fashionable item and a perfect tool for making a unique appearance in winter. Looking at the winter street photos, both celebrities and trendy people are wearing scarves in a row, which are both majestic and gentlemanly. So the question is, how to choose a scarf for men?

About Colors
As a “visual animal,” of course, we should choose colors first, because this most intuitive visual experience will directly affect the overall combination. So the most direct correlation with color is skin tone. For men with a fair skin tone, congratulations on choosing any color you want (there’s no way, in this world, fair skin tone is something you can do). If you want to stand out, you can some red, pink, and yellow scarves.
If your skin color is yellowish, you can choose white to make your skin look brighter, or you can choose warm colors such as camel, light coffee, etc. to create a warm male atmosphere.
If you have dark skin, even if you like bright rose red, mustard yellow, and fluorescent orange, please restrain yourself. Believe me, don’t insult yourself. You can choose gray-black colors, or try dark red, dark green, and navy blue, which are more sophisticated.
Another thing is that you should choose pure colors as much as possible, such as checks, stripes, prints, etc. It’s difficult to control the single tone, which you want to be more fashionable, but it turns out to be rustic.
About Materials
The skin on the neck is very sensitive, and scarves are close-fitting items, so the material is very important. Furthermore, different materials have different textures and styles, and the styles they match will also vary. So how do you choose the material?
Knit fabrics should be the most common, mainly because they are relatively affordable, and blended fabrics are soft and have good warmth retention. However, knitted styles are usually bulky and bulging, so try to choose solid colors to avoid a confusing effect.
Cashmere is relatively delicate and has better cold-proof effect, which is the main material for scarves in cold regions. It has a masculine and British style when paired, and can be worn with sweaters, windbreaker coats, or alone.
Finally, silk, an ancient and noble material, is light and more delicate, but its warmth retention effect is not as good as the two materials above. Silk scarves are all about a sense of nobility, used as embellishments on some important occasions to easily create a gentlemanly atmosphere.
About length
Men’s scarves are a bit different from women’s, and you don’t need to be piled around the neck to create a warm feeling. The length of men’s scarves has a general value, usually between 160cm-170cm. No man’s neck can be thick enough to affect the way the scarf is tied, but if you are around 150cm tall, you can choose a shorter one (hopefully you don’t need it).
A too-short scarf is restrictive in style, with few other ways to tie it, and can appear petty. A too-long scarf can appear flamboyant, and greatly limits the style of its matching, with only high-street, avant-garde cross-dressing options available, and conventional styles out of the question.
