What Happens If Your Sweater Becomes Deformed And Shrunk?

As temperatures get colder, more people wear sweaters; however, after washing they may shrink in size. How to address this problem? Take a look.

shrink

First method: soften sweater fibers in clean water basin by mixing in an appropriate amount of conditioner, stirring, and placing your shrunken sweater inside for 20 minutes of soaking time before taking it out and gently wringing out excess water.

Make a dry towel available, tie the sweater to it, wrap and press to absorb excess moisture, stretching any shrinkaged areas with your hand to address shrinkage issues. There is a chemical found in hair conditioner that softens wool fibres for quick recovery to its original form and an easier recovery of your sweater shape.

The second method uses thermal expansion and contraction laws. When washing sweaters in cold water, their fabric becomes vulnerable and causes it to shrink. You can use heating techniques to restore them back to their original shapes: prepare a pot of hot water (70-80 degrees is optimal), soak the sweater for one hour in it before transferring it back into cold water (ten minutes is sufficient), take out and put back on hanger; voila – elastic will have returned back into shape!

The third method: In a basin of warm water, mix two tablespoons of white vinegar into it before placing your sweater into it for about half an hour before taking it out and stretching by hand. After drying, your sweater will regain its original form – white vinegar can soften thin fabrics such as wool to help make them fluffy again!
